    Today, the Fashion Designer is in every sense a designer who knows how to listen to his own creativity to create garments or accessories. He starts by structuring a personal story and follows each step of the process from the technical production to the product communication. Then, the designer chooses the most efficient tools, and constructively interacts with other professionals who all check the coherence of the overall view.
    Therefore, the stylistic and creative competences are combined with the ability to create innovative products, to foster quality, to place the products on the market, and to create their stories. Consequently, today's Fashion Designer understands and uses languages and influences that come not only from the field of fashion and adds them to traditional fashion codes in order to trace a complex path in line with contemporary trends.

    The course is recognized by Italian Ministry of Education and Research (MIUR) as an Academic Diploma Level I (180CF)

    STRUCTURE .

    The entire course in Fashion Design is structured so as to supply students with the tools, the cultural background and correct methodology to effectively face the design of an apparel and accessory collection that, in addition to respecting the values of originality and innovation, can meet the market needs and satisfy the trend requirements of contemporary fashion design. The course also has the aim of promoting personal talent, experimentation, and research, by enhancing the expressive and stylistic uniqueness of each student.

    This process is centred on the project and design methods, elements that remain present, with increasing complexity, from the first year to the final thesis. The different collections (womenswear, menswear, textiles, accessories) and the production of prototypes are the areas of expertise that the students will acquire knowledge and develop skills in throughout the three years of study. In this respect, special attention will be paid to acquiring pattern making and sewing skills, to textile and leather technology and processing, design techniques and fashion illustration and the production process of garments and accessories. Complementary to the technical and methodological disciplines is the particular focus on cultural studies that identify the language of fashion as a historical, artistic and social phenomenon; as a flow of trends and codes, as a creative and visual narrative and, lastly, as an economic system characterized by a production chain and by specific marketing and communication strategies.

    SPECIALIZATION .

    The Curriculum of the second or third year is rich in specializations, thanks to the choice of optional subjects (see Individual Curriculum) and the topic of the Thesis Project.

    The students can chose a specific curriculum and IED will confirm whether the Specializations have been activated.

    Shoes and Accessories Design after a first preparatory year, the following years will be structured to deepen the specific know-how required in the project development for an accessory (bags, shoes, small leather goods, hats, belts, etc.)

    The accessory Fashion designer must know how to manage the project in all its phases, from the idea to the creation of prototypes. Students will be supported by professionals from the industry who can grasp the changes taking place in national and international contexts.

    The accessory has evolved in time, gradually becoming complementary to the outfit, an iconic object with an unquestioned aesthetic and stylistic value. Its design and production requires specialized training that considers the peculiarity of the product: in addition to designing the collections dedicated to the different types of accessories (women and men), intense workshops will be held to ensure a correct use of the tools and machines, for the acquisition of pattern making techniques and bag and shoe manufacturing, of specific technical drawings, the processes of production and use of different leathers and skins, as well as metal hardware design for accessories.
