    Este Máster ofrece formación en las áreas clave de las finanzas, haciendo hincapié en los últimos adelantos en cada una de éstas con un enfoque cuantitativo a la hora de captar la estructura de los mercados financieros y prever posibles movimientos y tendencias al respecto. 
    • The programme will develop your understanding of theory in lecture-based teaching and its practical application in computer labs, allowing you to develop real-life skills, such as pricing financial derivatives and forecasting exchange rates.
    • You will be encouraged to attend our annual series of practitioners’ talks and annual Economics seminar series.
    • The programme is offered by the Centre for Economic & Financial Studies which covers research and postgraduate teaching in economics and finance.

    Programme overview
    • MSc: 12 months full-time
    Teaching is based on formal lectures which also allow opportunities for class discussion. More technical subjects are supported by weekly or fortnightly small tutorials, which provide opportunities for you to engage with some issues or questions in a group format. Some courses also involve lab sessions with students using specialised software, for instance in the study of econometrics.

    You will take five compulsory courses and two optional courses. MSc students will write a dissertation of 12,000–15,000 words.
    Compulsory courses
    • Basic econometrics*
    • Financial derivatives 
    • Mathematical finance (co-requisite for Financial derivatives)
    • Modelling and forecasting financial markets
    • Research methods and dissertation training.
    * Students who already have Basic econometrics will take three compulsory and three optionalcourses, subject to the approval of the programme director.
    Optional courses
    • Advanced portfolio analysis
    • Applied computational finance (subject to course approval)
    • Economic fundamentals and financial markets
    • Portfolio analysis and investment (co-requisite for Advanced portfolio analysis).
    Career prospects 

    We expect graduates from this programme to gain employment in financial institutions, government organisations and international organisations such as the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. The programme also provides a strong foundation for PhD research, particularly for our PhD in Quantitative Finance.
    Entry requirements

    Applicants should have at least a 2:1 Honours degree or non-UK equivalent.  Normally this should be a degree in economics, finance, engineering, physics or another highly mathematical discipline.

    English language 

    If your first language is not English, the University sets a minimum English Language proficiency level.
