  El Máster en Políticas Públicas le dotará de las cualidades y conocimientos necesarios para poder contribuir a la formación, implementación y evaluación de políticas en un amplio abanico de campos. 

  • If you work, or would like to work, in a broad range of public sector, voluntary and charitable organisations, this programme has been designed for you. It will give you the tools to influence or evaluate policy outcomes and understand more about how policy decisions come to be made in contemporary society.
  • The programme is delivered by staff within the School of Social & Political Sciences who share an interest in understanding and influencing public policy.
  • There is significant input from industry, including teaching on some courses, guest lectures and seminars. Our contributors include Scottish and local government, and organisations engaged in delivering policy.
  • The programme is very flexible and you can complete the courses through full-time, part-time or modular study. Much of the taught content is delivered in intensive ‘conference-style’ days. These are designed to suit all needs, whether you are studying full-time or balancing your study with professional commitments.

  Programme overview

  • MSc: 12 months full-time; 24 months part-time, up to 60 months on modular route
  • PgDip: 9 months full-time; 18 months part-time; up to four years on modular route
  • PgCert: 4 months full-time; 8 months part-time; up to four years on a modular route

  You will take a number of core and optional courses, enabling you to
  

  • demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of the key institutions and processes engaged in public policy
  • contribute to the design of approaches to monitoring and review of policies
  • better understand your chosen policy fields
  • develop skills in self-management, critical analysis, and written communication.

  Core courses

  • Policy analysis
  • Policy design and delivery
  • Contemporary government and governance.

  Optional courses include

  • Researching and evidencing the policy process
  • Public policy and fiscal austerity
  • Strategic management and decision making
  • Crime and community safety.

  You will also research a specialist topic and produce a dissertation (MSc only).

  
  Career prospects 

  
  Career opportunities exist for research and policy development within the private sector, voluntary or charitable organisations, civil service and local government.

  Entry requirements

  
  Entry requirements for postgraduate taught programmes are a 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent qualification (for example, GPA 3.0 or above) in a relevant subject.

  If your first language is not English, the University sets a minimum English Language proficiency level.
